Following doubts about whether the Sittingbourne and Kemsley Light Railway will be in operation this year, it has been confirmed that trains will run in the last week of October.
After two years of nail biting, hundreds of hours of negotiations, enormous support from the local community and a huge amount of work by volunteers, the SKLR has announced that trains will be running in their 40th Anniversary year.
On Sunday 24th , Wednesday 27th , Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st October 2010 trains will run from Milton Regis (Asda) halt to Kemsley Down. Trains will be steam and diesel hauled and not all the usual attractions at Kemsley Down will be available. See the SKLR website (link below) for timetable and fares.
These will be the only services in 2010, after this the postponed work to Milton Regis viaduct will take place during the winter which means that the SKLR will not be able to run Santa Specials this Christmas. When this work is finished the full line to Sittingbourne Viaduct is expected to reopen next season.
The SKLR still has some way to go to safeguard the whole of the line and their SOS Campaign will continue. Vist the SKLR website (link below) for details of how donations can be made.
