The Launceston Steam Railway has shared details of their current plight on the British Heritage Railways Facebook page – It is copied here, please read this and help spread the word, it would be much appreciated:
The Launceston Steam Railway has had a long-term aim to extend for a further two miles to the village of Egloskerry. In 2009 we were approached by Cornwall Council, who had developed a plan to build a new off road multi-use trail alongside an extension of the railway to Egloskerry. The LSR fully supported these plans and agreed to fund the cost of track laying and materials for the extension, with the Council funding the other elements of the project from a £1.5 million grant. Sadly the Council have now decided to build a trail along the centre of the railway trackbed, blocking any extension of the railway, and have submitted a planning application to themselves for this proposal. We are asking as many people as possible to support us by signing a petition of objection to the plans at http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/lsr/ . Further details of the situation and original proposals can be found on the news page of the LSR website. Thank you.”
