The Epping Ongar Railway in Essex is making preparations for their grand resumption of passenger service special weekend on 25-27 May 2012. The EOR has revealed a surprise guest locomotive to strengthen the locomotives that will be in service during this special weekend.
GWR 0-6-0 pannier tank No.6430 has arrived at North Weald ready to take part in the event. The locomotive was built at Swindon in 1937 and spent much of it’s life working the branch lines of GWR system, it was one of the class fitted for auto train working. Withdrawn in 1964, the engine was purchased as a source of spares before restoration commenced in 1990. 6430 steamed again on 20th December 2003 and is currently in service on the Llangollen Railway.
6430 will be working alongside fellow GWR locomotive Pitchford Hall and Isabel which are based at EOR. Members of the diesel fleet will also be in operation throughout the weekend with appearances anticipated from Class 37 Co-Co No.D6729 and Class 31 A1A-A1A No.31438 (all locomotives are subject to availability).
Trains will be shuttling from Ongar to North Weald and North Weald to Coopersale. A regular heritage bus services will run every 30 mins from Epping Underground Station and High Street. Timetables and fares are available from the EOR website.
